Katunayake airport’s main runway to be closed for renovations

The main runway of Bandaranaike International Airport in Katunayake will be closed during the first three months next year due to renovations.
The Director General of Airport and Aviation Services Authority H.M.C. Nimalsiri told our news team that the main runway of Katunayake airport will be closed from 6th of January to 7th of April between 8.30 AM to 4.30PM.
Accordingly, the Director General of Civil Aviation Services further noted that flights will use the runway only at night time during this period, and that he has informed the flight services to use Mattala International Airport as an alternative.
Meanwhile, the Director General of Civil Aviation also stated that India is conducting a feasibility analysis on the Palali airport to assess its suitability to be utilised as a regional airport.
