Man steals Rs. 2.4 million worth notes from the Central Bank

An employ has been remanded over stealing 2.4 million rupees worth of old 5000 rupee notes that the Sri Lanka Central Bank had acquired for destruction, as the stock of 5000 rupee notes were in an unusable state.
The individual is an employee from the Central Bank’s traded money Division, he is to be remanded till 22nd this month after he was produced before Colombo Fort Additional Magistrate Lanka Jayaratne yesterday.
Investigations have also commenced to determine whether the suspect had been involved in financial frauds.
