Retail And Wholesale Merchants In Several Areas Stage Protests Against VAT Increment

Retail and wholesale merchants of Kadawatha, Anuradhapura, Bandarawela, Katugastota and Badulla staged protests this morning.
The protestors complained that the increase in VAT has affected their businesses.
Our provincial correspondents stated that many shops in these towns are closed today due to protests.
The Kiribathgoda merchants association organized its protest at Kiribathgoda Bus Stand and, fellow merchants of Kadawatha, Mawaramandiya, Maakola and Kelaniya marched to the clock tower and engaged in protest.
Merchants of Ilukkumbura economic centre of Katugastota also engaged in a protest today.
Merchants from Anuradhapura also engaged in a protest at the new Bus Stand.
Merchants from Bandarawela also engaged in a protest near the clock tower this morning.
Meanwhile merchants of Badulla started their protest march from Badulla town and reached the office of the Governors Secretary, where a petition was handed over to the governor
Protests against the increased VAT were held in Galle, Matara, Maharagama and Gampaha over the past few days.
