Iran polls: President Hassan Rouhani’s allies secured a grand victory

President Hassan Rouhani’s allies, reformist and moderate Iranian politicos, have won big in the second round of parliamentary elections in Iran.

Supporters of President Hassan Rouhani won 42% of the total seats - short of an outright majority but comfortable enough to pass his legislative plans, foreign media says.

Independents took nearly 30% and many of them are said to be reform-minded.

According to reports 17 women were also elected, making history as the highest female representation in the parliament since Iran’s revolution in 1979.
