Workers from manpower to celebrate New Year on the streets

The gatekeepers serving at all unprotected railway gates at level crossing across the island have been staging a strike since this morning.
They claimed that the authorities have not taken any steps to fulfill their service requirements including the increment of 7500 rupees monthly allowance.
The association of the unprotected railway level crossing gatekeepers stated that the strike would continue until the 16th of this month.
Meanwhile, the workers of Manpower who have been are engaged in a fast over the last 16 days, are preparing to celebrate the traditional new year on the streets.
The workers commenced their fasting campaign on the 29th of last month, demanding to merge them to the permanent cadre.
The frontline socialist party members have also been staging a fasting campaign in front of the Fort Railway station over the last 6 days, demanding to release the party’s politburo member Kumar Gunaratnam.
The Propaganda secretary of the party Pubudu Jayagoda also stated that their members will celebrate the new year on the streets as well.
