Cannot offer Citizenship to Kumar Gunarathnam; says Attorney General

The Attorney General has presented evidence before the Appeal court to the effect that it is not possible to grant citizenship in this country to Kumar Gunaratnam, deemed as the Frontline Socialist Party Leader.
Laying evidence before the Appeal Court the Senior State Counsel appearing for the Attorney General said that since Kumar Gunaratnam had acted illegally he neither had the right to request for this country’s citizenship nor was there any possibility to grant it.
Frontline Socialist Party Political Council member Kumar Gunaratnam had earlier appealed to the Appeal court requesting a Writ Order for granting him Sri Lanka citizenship.
While the petition was taken up for consideration before the appeal court yesterday, the State Counsel appearing for the Attorney General said so on this occasion.
Counsel appearing for the petitioner informed that the petitioner who delves in politics had gone overseas using a different name out of considerations of personal security.
The court that took into considerations the evidence placed before it, informed that the written discourses to be filed on May 24th of before it.
