Yoshitha files a fundamental rights petition with the Supreme Court

A fundamental rights petition has been filed on behalf of Yoshitha Rajapaksa and three others with the Supreme Court this morning.
Others included in the fundamental rights petition were: former president Mahinda Rajapaksa’s media spokesman and CSN channel head Rohan Weliwita, CSN directors Kavishan Dissanayake and Ashan Fernando. The petition stated that the rights of the petitioners have been violated by arresting and keeping them in remand custody. 7 respondents including the IGP and the FCID have been named in the rights petition.
Meanwhile Colombo High Court yesterday dismissed a bail application filed by the four suspects.
Five suspects, including Yoshitha Rajapaksa and the CEO of the channel Nishantha Ranatunga were arrested and remanded for allegedly abusing state property to promote the CSN television and, launching the channel with undeclared assets. The suspects have been remanded until March 10.
