President summons officers to resolve paddy and fertilizer problem

President Maithripala Sirisena says that he would be personally committed to mete out justice to the farming community when purchasing paddy and offering fertilizer subsidy.
He stated this while participating in a special meeting held at the Polonnaruwa District Secretariat with regard to the problems faced by the farmers.
Ministers, MPs, government officials as well as representatives of farmers’ organizations participated in the meeting.
According to the Presidential Media Unit, representatives of farmers’ organizations presented a detailed explanation concerning the issues faced when selling their paddy and obtaining fertilizers.
In response, the President stated that all factions should get together and hold discussions to find a solution to the problem.
He also noted that it is the duty of the officials to take necessary measures when required, and they cannot overlook the matter by handing over the responsibility to a single institute.
President Maithripala Sirisena further elaborated that a special dialog will be held with regard to the issues in future, where matters raised during this meeting by the representatives of farmers would be taken into consideration.
