Party Leader privileges to the joint opposition

MP Ranjith Soysa says that provision has been made to make special statements under Standing Order 23 – 2 recognising the Joint Opposition Leaders as party leaders in parliament.

The MP said that this consensus had been reached subsequent to a special discussion held between President Maitripala Sirisena and Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe last night.

The joint opposition had said earlier that it be recognized as an independent group within parliament and that if this did not take place, it would take resort to a struggle.

However replying to a query of our news team the MP said that consequent to this consensus the Joint Opposition had decided to suspend the protests scheduled to be held within parliament.
