The UDA disclosed today that there are 290 families of encroachers occupying Kajeema Mawatha, where a protest was launched recently against the demolishing of unauthorized structures at Thotalanga.
Director of UDA New Housing Project S.A.R. Samarasinghe stated that the concerned area was used for temporary makeshift camps. He accused that certain residents have put up houses forcibly and occupied them.
A group of residents of Kajeema Mawatha who are currently occupied in houses on lease also joined this media conference. They stated that they are threatened by certain groups who have already obtained houses in the new housing schemes and simultaneously returned to the unauthorized structures in Kajeema Mawatha.
