A shortage of pharmaceuticals at main hospitals

The Health Sector Trade Unions state that there is shortage of 50 essential drugs in main hospitals throughout the country.

All Ceylon Nurses Association Chairman Gamini Kumaarasinghe stated that despite short term solutions, the government has failed to find a permanent solution to the shortage of pharmaceuticals.

A senior spokesman representing the Supply Division of the ministry of Health stated that, to date, no such drug shortage had been reported from any hospital around the island.  He also said steps have been taken to bring certain drugs into the country. However there had been a delay in the order being made.
