These are the dramatic scenes as a family of three are rescued from a giant sinkhole which swallowed their car as they drove through Trujillo in Peru.

The family's car was swallowed by the 16 foot sinkhole which appeared underneath them them without any warning as they drove along the road.

Witnesses videoed the dramatic rescue as passers by risked their lives to assist the family.
