
Indian Foreign Minister arrives in sri lanka; UNHRC commissioner to arrive tomorrow

The Minister of External Affairs of India, Sushma Swaraj will undertake an official visit to Sri Lanka today to attend the Ninth Session of the India-Sri Lanka Joint Commission.
The Joint Commission, co-chaired by sri lankas Minister of Foreign Affairs and the India’s Minister of External Affairs will be held today in Colombo.
During her visit, Minister Sushma Swaraj will also call on President Maithripala Sirisena and Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe.
Meanwhile, accepting an invitation extended by the Sri Lankan Government in February 2015, the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Zeid Ra'ad Al Hussein will undertake a four-day official visit to Sri Lanka beginning tomorrow.
During the visit, the UN human rights chief will call on President Maithripala Sirisena, Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe and Leader of Opposition R. Sampanthan.
On 7th and 8th February, the High Commissioner will visit Jaffna and Trincomalee where he will meet with the Governors and Chief Ministers of the Northern and Eastern Provinces respectively.
The High Commissioner will also meet with religious leaders in different locations.
