President orders investigation into controversial article

President Mahinda Rajapaksa has ordered an investigation into the controversial article which appeared on the Ministry of Defence website. The President on Tuesday expressed regret over the article which stirred emotions in India resulting in protests in Tamils Nadu and in the Indian Parliament.
President Rajapaksa told media heads at a meeting at Temple Trees on Tuesday that he has asked for a report over the article which was published on the Defence Ministry website. Anti Sri Lankan protests were staged in Tamil Nadu over an article published in the Defence Ministry website in Sri Lanka.
India strongly condemned the “derogatory” article against Tamil Nadu CM J Jayalalithaa appearing in the Sri Lankan Defence Ministry website after agitated AIADMK members disrupted Parliament proceedings demanding a resolution to denounce the action.
Both Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha witnessed two adjournments each as AIADMK members disrupted the proceedings and stormed into the well seeking a statement from the government even as they raised slogans denouncing the Sri Lankan President.
The Times of India reports that the Indian External Affairs Ministry later summoned Sri Lankan High ommissioner Sudharshan Seneviratne and lodged the country’s protest.
