Police use water cannon to disperse FSP protest


The Police have used water cannons to disperse a protest march organized by the Frontline Socialist Party (FSP), as it reached Technical Junction in Colombo on Tuesday (19).

Speaking to Lankapuvath National News Agency, the FSP Propaganda Secretary Pubudu Jagoda stressed that the protest was organized with the intention of pressuring the Government, to release the FSP Politburo Member, Kumar Gunaratnam.

Kumar Gunaratnam alias Kumara Mahaththaya who possesses the Australian citizenship, was arrested on November 4, 2015 in the Anguruwawila area in Kegalle by the Kegalle Police for staying in the country in violation of Immigration and Emigration laws without a Visa and later handed over to the Controller of Immigration and Emigration to seek a Court order for his deportation.

Mr. Gunaratnam was arrested by the Police when he was at his mother’s home.

Reportedly, Mr. Gunaratnam arrived in Sri Lanka on January 1 on a 30-day Tourist Visa which expired on January 31 and since then he was said to be in hiding.
