Former president Mahinda Rajapaksa says that the Bhikkus should be consulted before imposing laws on the Maha Sangha.
He stated this after participating in Thaipongal religious rites held at Mayura pathi Hindu Kovil in Wellawatta this morning.
Meanwhile National Bhikku Council stated that a disruption has erupted within the Bhikku community due to the proposed Draft Bill to introduce a Theravada Ecclesiastical Code.
Addressing a media conference held in Colombo this morning, National Bhikku Council General Secretary Vakamulle Vijitha Thera said that the Bhikku community including the Chief Prelates should rally around to defeat the proposed Bill.
