Swire praises Govt’s reconciliation, development programmes


British Minister of State for the Foreign and Commonwealth Office Hugo Swire, on his third official visit to Sri Lanka, praised the progress made by the government of Sri Lanka in terms of reconciliation and economic development.

The minister stated that it is due to this progress Britain has witnessed that a sum of 6.6 million pounds was allocated by the UK Government to fund and support Sri Lanka over three consecutive years.

He said through its actions, the government of Sri Lanka has sent a very clear message to the international community that it is open for business.

He said with the support of the High Commission Trade and Investment team, British companies are now competing for around 1 billion pounds of business across a range of sectors.

During his three-day visit, Swire will meet President Maithripela Sirisena, Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe, Foreign Minister Mangala Samaraweera and a number of other ministers.
