Punishment given to Tangalle PS chairman not sufficient; AGs department informs HC

The Attorney General’s department says that the sentence handed down to the convicts of the murder of a British national in Tangalle, is insufficient.
The department has pointed this out by filing an appeal at the Colombo High Court.
Former chairman of the Tangalle Pradeshiya Sabha Sampath Chandra-pushpa Vidanapathirana was sentenced to 20 years rigorous imprisonment over the murder of British national Kuram Sheikh and raping his Russian girlfriend.
The verdict was given by the Colombo High Court on the 18th of last month.
Meanwhile the Former chairman of the Tangalle Pradeshiya Sabha appealed to the Colombo High court on the 31st of last month.
