Attorney General files legal action against Basil Rajapakse


The Attorney General filed action at the Colombo High Court against former Economic Development Minister Basil Rajapaksa over a charge of criminal abuse of money exceeding 26 million rupees belonging to the ‘Divineguma’ Department.

Reports say that in addition action has been filed also against former ‘Divi Neguma’ Department Director General R. K.Ranawaka.

The Attorney General has filed action against the defendants under another six charges including use of this money without Treasury approval.

While earlier four persons including former Minister Basil Rajapaksa were arrested and remanded over a ‘Divi Neguma’ Department financial fraud, they were released on bail later.

Meanwhile, the Presidential Commission of Inquiry Into Serious Acts of Fraud too has launched a probe.

That was in connection with internal air travel carried out during three past years using helicopters.

According to investigations carried out so far, it has been revealed that the Economic Development Ministry had paid a sum of 155 million rupees to the air force for the air travel carried out by the former Minister.

Reports say that former Minister Basil Rajapaksa is scheduled to be called to the Presidential Commission of Inquiry for obtaining a statement with regard to this in the near future.
