Fine for Train passengers who board without tickets to be Increased to 5000 rupees from January

The Transport Ministry has decided to increase the penalty against train passengers travelling without tickets. The fine will be increased to 5000 rupees with effect from January 2016.

 

In addition, those who are identified as travelling without tickets, will be required to pay double the ticket fare.

 

Railway Department General Manager B.A.P. Ariyarathna said that extra ticket collectors will be deployed to intensify checking for tickets.
