State services including health services were disrupted today after 18 professional trade unions launched an island wide strike in protest of curtailing benefits for government servants.
The strike which started at 8 o’clock this morning throughout the country has badly affected the functions of government hospitals including the Colombo National Hospital thereby brining OPD services and clinics to standstill.
GMOA General Secretary Nalin de Herath told our news team that the strike is a success today.
In addition to GMOA, 17 other trade unions including Engineers, Accountants, Educational Administration, Auditing, Inland Revenue and Survey have also joined the strike today.
Officers of the Sri Lanka Administrative Service have also resorted to work to rule trade union action in protest of the curtailing of their benefits by the budget.
