Colombo Chief Magistrate Gihan Pilapitiya today rejected a request made by former Parliamentarian Sajin de Vass Gunawardena to revoke the ban on foreign travel imposed on him.

Sajin Vaas Gunawardana has been banned from travelling overseas following a Court case filed against him by the bribery commission for Gunawardana’s failure to declare his assets and liabilities from year 2012 to 2014.

When the motion was considered before Colombo Chief Magistrate Gihan Pilapitiya, Assistant Director of the Bribery Commission Ranjani Seneviratne objected the motion as former MP Gunawardana’s travel abroad could intimidate the ongoing international investigation.

MP Gunawardena, who recently went to Singapore on medical grounds, had been involved in other activities as well, the commission also said.

The Bribery Commission also said that the passport of Gunawardena's wife had also been impounded, as part of the investigations.
