Cabinet papers to abolish executive presidency and introduce new electoral system to be presented today


The SLFP Central Committee has approved the proposal that the President will be submitting to the cabinet today.

President Maithreepala Sirisena said that two special Cabinet papers will be presented today for ministry approval.

One of the Cabinet papers is to abolish the Executive Presidency while the other is to introduce a new electoral system.

The President announced this during a ceremony held at Temple Trees yesterday.

The SLFP Central Committee meeting was held under the patronage of President Maithripala Sirisena.

Meanwhile SLFP General Secretary Minister Duminda Dissanayake said that the SLFP Central Committee that met yesterday authorized him to take disciplinary action with regard to individuals who, while acting as SLFP MPs had come forward to contest at the election under different party tickets.
