Avant gaurd agreements abolished on Presidents instructions

Cabinet spokesman Minister Rajitha Senaratne said President Maithripala Sirisena has ordered a hand over of the operations of the controversial Avant Garde Maritime Security Services to the Sri Lankan Navy.
The President has given the order following a special meeting held yesterday under his patronage at the Presidential Secretariat to discuss the controversy surrounding the Avant Garde investigations.
Cabinet Spokesman said the government decided to cancel all agreements with the private security firm Avant and hand over the operations to the Sri Lanka Navy.
Meanwhile, Southern Development Minister Sagala Rathnayake was sworn in before the President yesterday as the Law and Order Minister.
At the same time, Rehabilitation, Resettlement and Hindu Affairs Minister D.M. Swaminadan was sworn in as the Prison Reforms Minister.
Both of them received the new portfolios in addition to their existing ministerial posts.
The two ministers were sworn in, in the new positions after Thilak Marapana resigned from the Law and Order and Prison Reforms portfolios due to the Avant Guard controversy.
