Avant Guard incident takes centre stage again

The Government sources stated that a special meeting of the Cabinet is scheduled to be called with regard to the Avant Guard incident.
This special cabinet meeting would be held with the patronage of President Maithreepala Sirisena in the next few days.
The Cabinet has discussed the investigations of the Avant Garde incident in length during its meeting yesterday.
A recent statement made by Law and Order Minister Thilak Marapana in parliament has taken centre stage at the Cabinet meeting yesterday.
Minister Marapana said in parliament that police engaged in the Avant Garde incident in order to impress the current government.
Several Ministers including Rajitha Senarathna and Champika Ranawaka have made dire criticism about Marapana’s statement.
The group of ministers have commented that a full investigation with regard to incident should be conducted.
Meanwhile JVP leader and Chief Whip of the Opposition Anura Kumara Dissanayake expressed his views last Wednesday.
At the same time, Justice Minister Wijedasa Rajapaksa told parliament that certain factions proposed to arrest former Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa in connection with the Avant Garde incident.
He said however he did not allow it to happen.
Law and Order Minister Thilak Marapana expressed his views in parliament with regard to the incident in this manner.
