News of yet another Sri Lankan woman subjected to various acts of violence while serving as a housemaid in Middle East and committing suicide is reported from Oman.
The woman who committed suicide is a 51-year old mother of two from Batuwatta in Ragama.
The woman departed for Dubai for an overseas job through a foreign job agency in Maradana, Colombo.
That was on the 16th of July.
Kusum Gaandhi who worked in Dubai did not receive any salary from the house where she served.
Similarly she was subjected to various acts of violence from the house owner.
Reports say that due to this she requested the husband to speedily get her down back to Sri Lanka.
Reports say that although Kusum Gaandhi’s husband informed the job agency with regard to this, no proper response was received from the agency.
However unable to bear up the acts of violence, the 51-year-old Kusum Gandhi has committed suicide by hanging herself.
Meanwhile a woman from Kirindiwala in Gampaha has also committed suicide in Kuwait due to various harassments she faced in that country.
The Foreign Employment Bureau said that her body had been sent to this country on 3rd this month.
While the FEB has carried out a special probe with regard to these two incidents, the permit-holder of the said job agencies and two others have been arrested.
