Child abuse suspect priest remanded until Nov. 13


Tangalle Acting Magistrate J. H. Ranjith has ordered the Police to remand in custody a priest accused of sexually abusing an underage girl on October 25 in temple premises.

The 41-year-old suspect, a father of three-children, has been remanded until November 13. He is identified as a resident of Ambalantota, Bellagaswewa area.

It is revealed that the priest has allegedly given her a glass of water comprise with a medication which made the child unconscious and sexually molested her, while her grandmother was counsel to stay out of the chamber.

Police informed the Court that the child has been hospitalized to seek a report. Acting Magistrate also ordered the Police to produce the suspect for an identification parade on the November 13.
