FBI Says No Evidence That Bomb Caused Explosion On Maldives President’s Boat

Days after Maldives Vice President Ahmed Adeeb was arrested for plotting to assassinate President Yameen Abdul Gayoom, FBI on Saturday said that it has found no evidence that the explosion in President’s boat was caused by a bomb.

President Gayoom’s boat was ripped off by a powerful explosion on September 28 while he was returning to the Capital Male from the airport. Though Gayoom escaped unhurt in the incident, but his wife, an aide and a body guard were injured.

Soon after the incident Maldives government arrested Vice president Adeeb and other three soldiers for allegedly planning an assassination bid on president.

But the FBI said in a statement on Saturday that the debris it was asked to investigate turned out to be boat parts and not bomb remnants.
