UPFA Western Provincial Council member Upali Kodikara, who was arrested for allegedly obstructing duties of a police officer, has been released on bail by the Colombo Chief Magistrate today.
He was ordered released on a cash bail of Rs 10,000 and two personal bails of Rs 1 million each by Colombo Chief Magistrate Gihan Pilapitiya said.
He stated that the attorneys representing Kodikara had submitted a bail plea citing an impending Malaysia visit of the defendant.
The former Provincial Minister was arrested on Monday (19) on charges of obstructing a police officer at the BMICH premises during sittings of the Presidential Commission of Inquiry (CoI) held with the participation of former President Mahinda Rajapaksa.
Kodikara had allegedly attempted to enter the hall where proceeding of the CoI took place, despite the announcement of the commission’s officials.
