Mahinda Rajapakse and Chandrika Bandaranayaka meet at a funeral house


Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa and former President Chandrika Kumaratunga participated yesterday in paying their last respects to deceased Mohaan Paana-bokkey who had served as the Kandy Sri Vishnu Temple Basnaayaka Nilame.

The remains of Basnayaka Nilame had been kept at his residence in Kandy Weerakoon Garden.

While the former President Chandrika Bandaranaike paid her last respects to the remains of the Basnayake Nilame first, a little while later former President Mahinda Rajapaksa visited the residence and paid his last respects.

Our reporter said that after paying their last respects both had engaged in a cordial discussion with the people gathered at the funeral house. 

However our reporter said that no conversation took place between the former President Mahinda Rajapaksa and former President Chandrika Bandaranaike.

However Journalists asked several questions former President Mahinda Rajapaksa as he was leaving the funeral house.

 Similarly the journalists also asked the former President with regard to a recent statement made by Minister S. B. Dissanayake.

Participating at a function held in Kandy recently Minister S. B. Dissanayake had said that former President Mahinda Rajapaksa should withdraw from politics for the SLFP to be victorious at the upcoming local government election.
