
A police team boards the Avant Gaurd vessel

A police team has boarded the Avant Gaurd vessel to carry out further investigations.
A senior police officer in charge of Galle, stated that investigations have already commenced.
Galle Harbour Police said that the ship had entered the Galle harbour by last afternoon.
While the navy inspected this vessel on October 6th on suspicion as it sailed on close to the Galle Harbour with the Sri Lankan Flag, subsequently took it to its custody alleging that the vessel had exchanged contradictory information.
The navy completed the investigation and handed over the relevant report to the Defence Ministry recently.
Police Media Spokesman ASP Ruwan Gunasekera said 33 crew members including five foreigners were on board.
He also stated, according to available information there were 816, T-56 fire arms and nearly 200 thousand rounds in the vessel.
