The Teachers’ Unions oppose the proposition of the Minster of Education to add a certain amount of marks at the O/L examination for students who have attended Dhamma school.
Participating at a function held in Anukkane, Kuliyapitiya the Minister of Education Akila Viraj Kariyawasam said that the initiative was intended to encourage students to attend Dhamma school.
However the Chief Secretary of the Teachers’ Union Joseph Stalin said that the proposition of the Dhamma school as an exam criterion is not acceptable.
Chandrapema Gamage, Commissioner General of Buddhist Affairs said that the criterion for awarding marks based on the Buddhist Teaching Examination at university admission is still in action. He further says that such a procedure for awarding points will suit the O/L exam as well.
